Frequently asked questions

CBD is the shortened version of cannabidiol. Cannabidiol is one of over 100 cannabinoids found in plants from the cannabis family, including hemp and marijuana. Hemp is much higher in CBD than marijuana. In fact, all natural CBD products in the UK take their extracts from industrial hemp plants and have no relation whatsoever to marijuana. However, as marijuana and hemp both fall under the cannabis plant family, there’s a common misconception that CBD is a drug. This is entirely false, as CBD has no intoxicating effects whatsoever.

CBD has become increasingly popular across the globe. Many celebrities and sports stars speak publicly about the benefits they’ve felt from using it. For example, these stars include A-listers like Jennifer Aniston, Morgan Freeman, Kim Kardashian, Megan Rapinoe and Rob Gronkowski. CBD products come in many different forms and each person has their own way of using the cannabinoid. These include oils, balms, patches, edibles, drinks, tablets, vape liquids, nasal sprays, and many other options. Some users prefer to use one type of product, while others enjoy using a mix of different product types to achieve their desired results. For example, some people may only use oils, while others may use a combination of edibles, patches, and vape liquids.

All cannabinoids, including CBD, interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system. The endocannabinoid system helps maintain homeostasis in the body by playing a role in the regulation of various essential functions, such as sleep, mood, digestion, fertility, and much more. This system was only discovered in the early 1990s due to scientific research into another cannabinoid, THC. THC is the compound that can cause a ‘high’ sensation. While THC can be found in some CBD products, the legal limit of 0.2% means it will never be enough to cause intoxication. Each cannabinoid interacts with the ECS in a different way.

CBD and all other cannabinoids from the cannabis plant family are able to interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system. This system helps regulate various essential bodily functions, such as mood, sleep, fertility, digestion, and much more. Regulating these functions helps the body maintain a state of homeostasis. Homeostasis means that everything in the body is within the correct range and is working properly. If anything throws off the body’s homeostasis, the endocannabinoid system initiates a coordinated response. Endocannabinoids, which are molecules produced by the body, bind to receptors in the central (CB1) and peripheral (CB2) nervous systems to initiate a certain action. Once they’ve served their purpose, enzymes break down the endocannabinoids.

This system was only discovered in the early 1990s due to scientific research into another cannabinoid, THC. THC is the compound that can cause a ‘high’ sensation. Each cannabinoid interacts with the ECS in a different way. For example, THC is known to bind to receptors, which is part of the reason it can cause intoxication. However, other cannabinoids, such as CBN and CBG also bind to receptors but do not cause a ‘high’ sensation. Instead, they have their own individual effects and ways of interacting with ECS receptors.

In contrast, CBD is thought to prevent enzymes from being able to break down endocannabinoids. This is believed to make the endocannabinoids more effective at responding to different issues in the body that disturb its state of homeostasis. Some researchers also theorise that CBD may bind to a type of receptor that has yet to be discovered. This is due to the fact that research into the endocannabinoid system is still in its infancy. There is still much more room for experiments, discoveries, and breakthroughs as this system is extremely complex and researchers have only known about it for around 30 years.

We recently ran a customer survey to learn more about our customers. One of the main reasons for running this survey was to gain an updated understanding of why our customers use CBD products. As CBD is fairly new in the wellness industry, it’s important to us that we understand exactly what our customers are looking for when they buy CBD products from us.

According to our respondents, the most common reason our customers use CBD products is for some form of pain-related issue. This is then followed by mental health issues, general wellbeing support, and condition-related issues, respectively.

Here’s a breakdown of the results:
- 4 in 5 use CBD for pain issues
- 1 in 3 use CBD for mental health issues
- 1 in 4 use CBD for general wellbeing support
- 1 in 6 use CBD for condition-related issues, such as M.S. or Menopause

The number of people using CBD for pain saw an increase of seven percentages point from our last customer survey. We also saw the number of people using CBD for proactive wellbeing rise from 1 in 5 to 1 in 4. There is some crossover between categories, meaning that some people use CBD products for more than one of the reasons listed, which is reflected in the results.

People use CBD for a variety of different reasons, some of which may not be directly reflected in these survey results. However, based on customer feedback via verified reviews and customer survey responses, these are the most common areas of concern among CBD users who shop with Simply CBD. For example, many athletes use CBD as part of their recovery routines, such as muscle balms and salves for targeted relief. While this is not directly reflected in the results, it could fall under the ‘pain’ or ‘general wellbeing support’ categories.

CBD stands for cannabidiol, which is one of the many cannabinoids found in the hemp plant. Cannabinoids are the main active ingredients in hemp, in addition to numerous types of flavonoids and terpenes. There are over 100 different cannabinoids in the hemp plant, all of which with their own abbreviations. For example, CBG stands for cannabigerol, while CBN stands for cannabinol. CBDa is another common abbreviation you may see in the world of CBD. This is also a cannabinoid called cannabidiolic acid, which serves as the precursor to CBD.

While these may not seem like very complicated terms in their longer form, some cannabinoids have very complex names. For example, THC is a very well known cannabinoid and is the compound that can cause a ‘high’ feeling. The full version of THC is delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol.

The abbreviated versions of cannabinoids like CBD and THC help users understand what’s in the products they buy. Full spectrum products contain a wide range of cannabinoids, and the three letter abbreviations are much easier to understand and identify than the full cannabinoid names. It’s also worth noting that CBD is the abbreviation when it comes to natural CBD. However, when the compound is made in a lab and is not extracted from the hemp plant, it should be labelled as synthetic CBD.

CBD is often misconstrued as a drug because of its relationship with plants from the cannabis family. This leads people to believe that taking CBD will cause them to get high. However, CBD has none of these effects whatsoever. In reality, it’s a different cannabinoid called THC that causes the high sensation associated with cannabis.

The two most well known plants within the cannabis plant family are hemp and marijuana. Hemp is naturally high in CBD and low in THC. Marijuana is naturally high in THC and low in CBD. This is why hemp has been legalised for licensed use in the UK, while marijuana remains strictly illegal. All legal CBD products are extracted from licesned industrial hemp. This means that CBD has no relation to marijuana, the type of cannabis that is commonly used as a street drug to get ‘high’.

While full spectrum CBD products contain small amounts of THC, the legal limit is 0.2% in the UK. This tiny trace amount is nowhere near enough to cause any intoxication or ‘high’ sensation whatsoever. The reason its included is so all of the cannabinoids from the hemp plant can work together to produce more well rounded benefits. This phenomenon is known as the entorage effect, and it also involves other plant compounds such as terpenes and flavonoids.

At Simply CBD, we’re proud to offer a wide variety of product types, strengths, and CBD profiles. This allows us to cater to the unique needs and preferences of each CBD user. Whether you’re brand new to CBD or consider yourself an expert in the field, our CBD shop will have a product that suits you.

In terms of product types, we offer a wide range of options. This includes standard options like oils, gummies, tablets, capsules, balms, and salves. We also offer alternative products like patches, vape liquids, nasal sprays, and candles. So, whether you love ingestible CBD, topical CBD, or a mix of both, we’ve got everything you need.

In terms of strengths, we make sure to offer a wide range as everyone’s ideal dose of CBD is different. We also recommend that you start with a low dose when you’re new to CBD. After building up, you may find that high or medium strength CBD is best suited to your needs. You may also find that a low dose works perfectly for you, in which case there is no need to take anything stronger. In fact, taking a high dose unnecessarily can cause adverse effects. Our broad range of strength options means everyone can find a product that works for them.

In terms of CBD profiles, we offer full spectrum, broad spectrum, and CBD isolate products. Full spectrum products contain CBD and all other cannabinoids and compounds from hemp. Broad spectrum CBD contains CBD and a range of other compounds and cannabinoids from hemp, but no THC. CBD isolate products contain only CBD from the hemp plant. This means they don't include any other cannabinoids, terpenes, or flavonoids. For more information, check out the detailed FAQs on each CBD profile.

CBD isolate is known as the purest form of CBD. Instead of including any other compounds or cannabinoids, CBD isolate products only contain CBD. This is achieved by adding an extra step to the extraction process. After the initial stage, the next step involves decarboxylation. This process separates the CBD content from any other compounds in the extract. This CBD is then lab tested to ensure that it’s at least 99% pure, before being added to CBD isolate products.

THC is by no means a bad compound to ingest, especially in the trace amounts found in full spectrum products. However, some people prefer to avoid it. If you want to stay away from any THC content, you may want to try CBD isolate or broad spectrum CBD products. CBD isolate products are great for those who are just starting out with CBD. This is because they are typically simpler to dose. This may help you find your most suitable dose more easily.

It’s worth mentioning that CBD isolate contains no terpenes or flavonoids. This means that it’s impossible to experience the entourage effect when using only CBD isolate products. CBD isolate is still effective as CBD is the main ingredient across all CBD products. However, the entourage effect is thought to give broad and full spectrum products the ability to provide more potent effects. There are benefits of each product type, so the key is to find what works best for you.

Full-spectrum CBD contains all of the cannabinoids and plant compounds that naturally occur in hemp plants. This type of CBD is considered to be more potent than CBD isolate. This is because it can create the entourage effect. The entourage effect is what occurs when all of the compounds and cannabinoids are able to work together.

Full-spectrum CBD contains a rich blend of cannabinoids and terpenes. It even includes trace amounts of minerals and vitamins. CBD is the prominent cannabinoid found in full-spectrum CBD, but there are also several minor ones. These include CBG, CBC and CBN. You’ll also find terpenes like myrcene. This is a compound that is also found in plants like thyme and lemongrass, the latter being a plant used in traditional folk remedies for centuries. When cannabinoids like CBD interact with terpenes like myrcene, the properties are amplified. In the case of myrcene, it offers anti-inflammatory properties.

Full-spectrum CBD also contains flavonoids. Flavonoids are components found in many plants, fruits, and vegetables. They are naturally abundant in antioxidant activity. The role of flavonoids is to help regulate cellular activity in the body. This helps protect it against everyday toxins and stressors. Some of the flavonoids found in full-spectrum CBD include orientin, quercetin, silymarin, and kaempferol.

One question you might have about full-spectrum CBD is whether it contains THC. In case you don’t know, THC is a cannabis compound that can cause a ‘high’ sensation. Full-spectrum CBD only contains trace amounts (less than 0.2%) of THC at most. Many full-spectrum CBD products contain significantly smaller THC quantities than this. For example, our Green CBD Oil independent laboratory test shows the THC content at just 0.025%. These trace amounts are not enough to ever cause a ‘high’

Broad spectrum CBD falls somewhere between full spectrum CBD and CBD isolate. It contains a range of cannabinoids and plant compounds from hemp, but not all of them. Most notably, all broad spectrum CBD products are completely free from THC. However, as they contain various cannabinoids and compounds in addition to CBD, broad spectrum CBD products can produce a less potent variation of the entourage effect.

Broad spectrum CBD products are typically popular among users who want to reap similar benefits to what full spectrum CBD products offer without consuming any THC. THC is not a bad compound to consume, especially in the trace amounts found in full spectrum CBD products. It contributes to the entourage effect and will never cause a ‘high’ in trace quantities. However, some users prefer to only use products that don’t contain any THC.

At Simply CBD, most of our products are either full spectrum or isolate. However, we do offer one type of product that falls within the broad spectrum category. This is our range of CBD vape liquids. They contain both CBD and CBG, but absolutely no THC. This product is low strength and comes in three flavours. The flavours we offer are Minty Menthol, Cherry Licious, and Tutti Frutti. While some CBD users opt for this product alone, it’s commonly used as a top up dose for other CBD products like oils or gummies.

The entourage effect refers to the theory that cannabinoids and other plant compounds from the cannabis plant family are more effective when they work together than when they’re isolated. For instance, think of each cannabinoid and compound as a member of a large team. Logically, the team is able to be more effective and accomplish more when each member works together. This is especially true in comparison to what one member would be able to accomplish on their own.

The concept of the entourage effect was first introduced in the late 1990s. A paper written by two scientists (Raphael Mechoulam and Shimon Ben-Shabat) discusses what they described as the entourage effect. In their paper, Mechoulam and Ben-Shabat wrote that science has yet to establish the exact role of all compounds found in cannabis. However, they believe that the compounds work better together than in isolation.

One scientific example to prove this point is Marinol. This is a synthetic version of THC that was developed in the mid-1980s. Scientists were baffled that Marinol didn’t possess the same levels of benefits or results as THC found in cannabis. The reason for this was simple: Marinol does not contain any cannabis compounds. In short, Marinol only has limited benefit as it’s the synthetic equivalent of THC isolate. The same concept applies to CBD, CBG, CBN, and all other cannabinoids.

Everyone reacts differently to CBD, and each person has their own preferences in terms of product type. For example, some people prefer CBD edibles, while others would rather use oils. Also, the best CBD profile (i.e. full spectrum) differs between users. Therefore, there is no exact type of product that is best for every single CBD beginner. That being said, there are options that are more suitable than others.

We always recommend that new users start with a low-dose product. For example, many people start out with our Liquid Gold and Green CBD Oils. These products allow you to take a low dose and build up gradually until you find your sweet spot. This is your ideal dose of CBD that provides your desired benefits. Sweet spots can differ greatly between individuals. For example, you may find that your ideal dose is two drops of 2.5% CBD oil three times per day. In contrast, other users may find that they need five drops of 5% CBD oil two times per day to achieve the same benefits. This is due to each person’s endocannabinoid system being unique.

If you choose to start out with CBD oil products, we recommend a beginner dose of one drop three times per day for the first week of use. You can then increase this dose per interval per week until you find your sweet spot. For example, on week two, you would take two drops three times per day. Once you begin to feel the benefits you’re looking for, you should stop increasing your dose. At this point, make sure to remain consistent with what you’re taking.

It’s important to note that taking too much CBD can overload your system and cause adverse effects. While some argue that a higher dose must produce better results, this is untrue as it differs from person to person. If a low dose is providing you with your desired results, then there’s absolutely no reason to increase it.

At Simply CBD, we have a wide range of product strengths to cater to every user’s unique needs and preferences. This includes various high strength CBD products. However, we always advise new users to begin their journey with a low strength product. This allows the endocannabinoid system time to get used to CBD and begin responding to it. If you’re just starting out on your CBD journey and jump straight into a high strength product, you run the risk of overloading your system.

Your endocannabinoid system is what allows your body to interact with cannabinoids and compounds from the hemp plant. This includes your body’s interactions with CBD. This system works on a bell curve. Overloading the curve is a bad idea as it can result in adverse effects and reduced efficacy. Instead, it’s best to build up slowly from your starter dose until you begin feeling the benefits. This may happen while still taking a low dose. Or, it may only happen if you build all the way up to using high strength products. This is because each person’s journey with CBD is different, so the most suitable products differ from person to person.

If you need guidance regarding moving up to high strength CBD, please reach out to us. Our friendly team of Simply Experts will be more than happy to help you find the best product and dose for your body. You could also join our community support group on Facebook for further advice and info. It’s run by our customers and has amassed over 48,000 members. No matter which option you choose, someone will be happy to give you the guidance you’re looking for.

As with most factors surrounding CBD, the answer to this question comes down to what works best for you. The short answer is, yes, you can absolutely use more than one CBD product at a time. For example, some users will take oil in the morning and top up their dose with vape liquids throughout the day. Finding a combination of products that fits your needs is the key. If you find that one product does the job, there’s no need to add more into the mix. However, if you think you could feel increased benefits from a mixture of products, there’s no harm in mixing them.

One factor that needs to be taken into consideration when adding new products into the mix is your daily dose. First of all, you never want to exceed your endocannabinoid system’s bell curve. This can happen by overloading your system with too much CBD. Overloading your system can cause both adverse effects and diminishing returns. This is why we advocate for gradually building up and adding one product at a time as needed or desired.

In addition to your ideal personal dose, there are also UK-wide safety guidelines to consider. These guidelines state that people should ingest no more than 70mg of CBD per day. When you begin mixing products, make sure you take the entire dose into account. For example, you may find that you want to try using 25mg gummies and a 5% oil after building up for a while. Using this example, if you wanted to take two gummies and 10 drops of oil throughout the day, this would exceed the limit and take you to 75mg total. Adjusting to one and a half gummies plus ten drops per day would allow you to remain within the daily limit. It’s all about finding the right balance that provides the results you’re after without overloading your system.

When looking to buy from a CBD UK shop as a first time user, you may wonder whether it’s safe. In short, the answer to this question is a resounding yes! In fact, one research paper published in 2017 analysed the effects of CBD on both animals and human beings from several previous scientific studies. The review concluded that CBD has a “favourable safety profile.”

CBD can contain very minimal trace amounts of THC, up to 0.2%, or none at all. The quantities found are a by-product of the processing stage. These trace levels don’t cause the intoxication that large quantities of THC can produce. Instead, the trace amounts of this compound help contribute to the entourage effect.

Another safety concern many people new to CBD have is whether it’s addictive like the recreational consumption of cannabis can be. The good news is CBD doesn’t have any addictive characteristics. This is largely due to the fact that it doesn’t cause intoxicating effects. The World Health Organisation (WHO) compiled a report on CBD back in 2017. This report determined that existing scientific research indicates CBD has no addiction potential.

At Simply CBD, our products are backed by independent laboratory tests. These test results confirm each product’s constituents for your peace of mind. We’re also always here to help if you ever have any questions or concerns about CBD, our products, or your CBD journey.

CBD is entirely legal to sell, buy, and consume in the UK. When looking to buy from a CBD shop for the first time, some are naturally apprehensive about the product due to its relationship with cannabis. Thankfully, you won’t get in any legal hot water as a result of buying and using CBD. This is because there is a major difference between hemp and marijuana, despite them both coming from the cannabis plant family. Hemp is naturally high in CBD content and low in THC, while marijuana is naturally high in THC content and low in CBD. While hemp has been legalised for industrial use, marijuana remains strictly illegal.

The production and sale of CBD in the UK is tightly regulated. Firstly, all CBD for sale must come exclusively from industrial hemp. This means legal CBD products have no relationship with marijuana whatsoever. The entities growing the hemp must also have a licence from the Home Office to do so. Secondly, all CBD must contain a maximum of 0.2% THC. This trace amount is enough to contribute to the entourage effect, but is not nearly enough to ever cause a ‘high’ or any other intoxicating effects.

Another legal concern that some beginners to CBD have is whether they’ll pass workplace drug tests. Most drug tests focus on highlighting high levels of THC. Theoretically, CBD with extremely low levels of THC shouldn’t trigger a positive result. You could also consume CBD isolate for extra peace of mind, such as our Pure CBD Oil. However, you won’t experience the entourage effect that full spectrum CBD has to offer. This is because CBD isolate doesn’t contain terpenes or other cannabinoids.

Each type of product has its own specific benefits. This means that while all CBD products aim to provide a wide range of benefits, some are more suitable for certain uses. When it comes to targeted support in an affected area, topical treatments that you can apply straight to the source of the issue are typically the best option. For example, our patches, balms, and salves can all be applied directly to an affected area. The CBD content from balms and salves stays within the skin’s pores. There, it can interact with endocannabinoid receptors. In contrast, the CBD from topical patches absorbs via the transdermal method. This means that it goes through the skin and into the bloodstream.

While topical products are great for localised support, they aren’t the only products you can for these issues. For example, some people find that taking sublingual CBD oils can help just as much as topical options even for localised areas of concern. Others benefit most from a combination of oral and topical CBD products. As with most aspects of CBD use, the most important factor is finding the balance that works for you. This includes identifying the products, dose, and usage frequency that suit your needs and preferences.
