Frequently asked questions

When looking to buy CBD online as a first time user, you may wonder whether it’s safe. In short, the answer to this question is a resounding yes! In fact, one research paper published in 2017 analysed the effects of CBD on both animals and human beings from several previous scientific studies. The review concluded that CBD has a “favourable safety profile.”

CBD can contain very minimal trace amounts of THC, up to 0.2%, or none at all. The quantities found are a by-product of the processing stage. These small amounts don’t cause the psychoactive effects that large quantities of THC can produce. Instead, the trace amounts of this compound help contribute to the entourage effect.

Another safety concern many people new to CBD have is whether it’s addictive like the recreational consumption of cannabis can be. The good news is CBD doesn’t have any addictive characteristics, as it doesn’t cause intoxicating effects. The World Health Organisation (WHO) compiled a report on CBD back in 2017. This report determined that existing scientific research indicates CBD has no addiction potential.

At Simply CBD, our products are backed by independent laboratory tests. These test results confirm each product’s constituents for your peace of mind. We’re also always here to help if you ever have any questions or concerns about CBD, our products, or your CBD journey.

CBD is entirely legal to sell, buy, and consume in the UK. When looking to buy CBD online for the first time, people new to CBD are naturally apprehensive about the product due to its relationship with cannabis. Thankfully, you won’t get in any legal hot water as a result of buying and using CBD. This is because there is a major difference between hemp and marijuana, despite them both coming from the cannabis plant family. Hemp is naturally high in CBD content and low in THC, while marijuana is naturally high in THC content and low in CBD. While hemp has been legalised for industrial use, marijuana remains strictly illegal.

The production and sale of CBD in the UK is tightly regulated. Firstly, all CBD for sale must come exclusively from industrial hemp. This means legal CBD products have no relationship with marijuana whatsoever. The entities growing the hemp must also have a licence from the Home Office to do so. Secondly, all CBD must contain a maximum of 0.2% THC. This trace amount is enough to contribute to the entourage effect, but is not nearly enough to ever cause a ‘high’ or any other intoxicating effects.

Another legal concern that some beginners to CBD have is whether they’ll pass workplace drug tests. Most drug tests focus on highlighting high levels of THC. Theoretically, CBD with extremely low levels of THC shouldn’t trigger a positive result. You could also consume CBD isolate for extra peace of mind, such as our Pure CBD Oil. However, you won’t experience the entourage effect that full spectrum CBD has to offer. This is because CBD isolate doesn’t contain terpenes or other cannabinoids.

Full-spectrum CBD contains all of the cannabinoids and plant compounds that naturally occur in hemp plants. This type of CBD is considered to be more potent than CBD isolate because it can create the entourage effect. This is what occurs when all of the compounds and cannabinoids are able to work together.

Full-spectrum CBD contains a rich blend of cannabinoids and terpenes. It even includes trace amounts of minerals and vitamins. CBD is the prominent cannabinoid found in full-spectrum CBD, but there are also several minor ones, including CBG, CBC and CBN. You’ll also find terpenes like myrcene. This is a compound that is also found in plants like thyme and lemongrass, the latter being a plant used in traditional folk remedies for centuries. When cannabinoids like CBD interact with terpenes like myrcene, the properties are amplified. In the case of myrcene, it offers anti-inflammatory properties.

Full-spectrum CBD also contains flavonoids. Flavonoids are components found in many plants, fruits, and vegetables. They are naturally abundant in antioxidant activity. The role of flavonoids is to help regulate cellular activity in the body, protecting it against everyday toxins and stressors. Some of the flavonoids found in full-spectrum CBD include orientin, quercetin, silymarin and kaempferol.

One question you might have about full-spectrum CBD is whether it contains THC. In case you don’t know, THC is a cannabis compound that can cause a ‘high’ sensation. Full-spectrum CBD only contains trace amounts (less than 0.2%) of THC at most. Many full-spectrum CBD products contain significantly smaller THC quantities than this. For example, our Green CBD Oil independent laboratory test shows the THC content at just 0.025%. These trace amounts are not enough to ever cause a ‘high’.

The entourage effect refers to the theory that cannabinoids and other plant compounds from the cannabis plant family are more effective when they work together than when they’re isolated. For instance, think of each cannabinoid and compound as a member of a large team. Logically, the team is able to be more effective and accomplish more when each member works together in comparison to what one member would be able to accomplish on their own.

The concept of the entourage effect was first introduced in the late 1990s. A paper written by two scientists named Raphael Mechoulam and Shimon Ben-Shabat discusses what they described as the entourage effect. In their paper, Mechoulam and Ben-Shabat wrote that science has yet to establish the exact role of all compounds found in cannabis. However, they believe that the compounds work better together than in isolation.

One scientific example to prove Mechoulam and Ben-Shabat’s point is Marinol. This is a synthetic version of THC that was developed in the mid-1980s. Scientists were baffled that Marinol didn’t possess the same levels of benefits or results as THC found in cannabis. The reason for this was simple: Marinol does not contain any cannabis compounds. In short, Marinol only has limited benefit as it’s the synthetic equivalent of THC isolate. The same concept applies to CBD, CBG, CBN, and all other cannabinoids.

Broad spectrum CBD falls somewhere between full spectrum CBD and CBD isolate. It contains a range of cannabinoids and plant compounds from hemp, but not all of them. Most notably, all broad spectrum CBD products are completely free from THC. However, as they contain various cannabinoids and compounds in addition to CBD, broad spectrum CBD products can produce a less potent variation of the entourage effect.

Broad spectrum CBD products are typically popular among users who want to reap similar benefits to what full spectrum CBD products offer without consuming any THC. THC is not a bad compound to consume, especially in the trace amounts found in full spectrum CBD products. It contributes to the entourage effect and will never cause a ‘high’ in trace quantities. However, some users prefer to only use products that don’t contain any THC. This is comparable to how those who follow a plant-based diet prefer to steer clear of anything containing animal-derived ingredients.

At Simply CBD, most of our products are either full spectrum or isolate. However, we do offer one type of product that falls within the broad spectrum category. This is our range of CBD vape liquids. They contain both CBD and CBG, but absolutely no THC. This product is low strength and comes in three flavours including Minty Menthol, Cherry Licious, and Tutti Frutti. While some CBD users opt for this product alone, it’s commonly used as a top up dose for other CBD products like oils or gummies.

CBD isolate is known as the purest form of CBD. Instead of including any of the other plant compounds or cannabinoids, CBD isolate products only contain CBD from the hemp plant. This is achieved by adding an extra step to the extraction process. After the initial stage, the next step involves decarboxylation. This process separates the CBD content from any other compounds in the extract. This CBD is then lab tested to ensure that it’s at least 99% pure, before being added to CBD isolate products.

While THC is by no means a bad compound to ingest, especially in the trace amounts found in full spectrum products, some people prefer to avoid it. If you want to stay away from any THC content, you may want to try CBD isolate or broad spectrum CBD products. CBD isolate products are great for those who are just starting out with CBD as they are typically simpler to dose. This may help you find your most suitable dose more easily.

It’s worth mentioning that CBD isolate contains no terpenes or flavonoids in addition to no other cannabinoids. This means that it’s impossible to experience the entourage effect when using only CBD isolate products. CBD isolate is still effective as CBD is the main ingredient across all CBD products. However, the entourage effect is thought to give broad and full spectrum products the ability to provide more potent effects. There are benefits of each product type, so the key is to find what works best for you.

Everyone reacts differently to CBD, and each person has their own preferences in terms of product type. For example, some people prefer CBD edibles, while others would rather use oils. Also, while some people only want to use CBD isolate products, others may want to try full spectrum options. Therefore, there is no exact type of product that is best for every single CBD beginner. That being said, there are options that are more suitable than others.

We always recommend that new users start with a low-dose product. For example, many people start out with our Liquid Gold and Green CBD Oils. These products allow you to take a low dose and build up gradually until you find your sweet spot. This is your ideal dose of CBD that provides your desired benefits, which can differ greatly between individuals. For example, you may find that your ideal dose is two drops of 2.5% CBD oil three times per day. In contrast, other users may find that they need five drops of 5% CBD oil two times per day to achieve the same benefits. This is due to each person’s endocannabinoid system being unique.

If you choose to start out with CBD oil products, we recommend a beginner dose of one drop three times per day for the first week of use. You can then increase this dose per interval per week until you find your sweet spot. For example, on week two, you would take two drops three times per day. Once you begin to feel the benefits you’re looking for, you should stop increasing your dose and remain consistent with what you’re taking. This is because taking too much CBD can overload your system and cause adverse effects. While some argue that a higher dose must produce better results, this is untrue as it differs from person to person. If a low dose is providing you with your desired results, then there’s absolutely no reason to increase it.

As with most factors surrounding CBD, the answer to this question comes down to what works best for you. The short answer is, yes, you can absolutely use more than one CBD product at a time. For example, some users will take oil in the morning and top up their dose with vape liquids throughout the day. Finding a combination of products that fits your needs is the key. If you find that one product does the job, there’s no need to add more into the mix. However, if you think you could feel increased benefits from a mixture of products, there’s no harm in mixing them.

One factor that needs to be taken into consideration when adding new products into the mix is your daily dose. First of all, you never want to exceed your endocannabinoid system’s bell curve. This can happen by overloading your system with too much CBD, which can cause adverse effects and diminishing returns. This is why we advocate for gradually building up and adding one product at a time as needed or desired.

In addition to your ideal personal dose, there are also UK-wide safety guidelines to consider. These guidelines state that people should ingest no more than 70mg of CBD per day. When you begin mixing products, make sure you take the entire dose into account. For example, you may find that you want to try using 25mg gummies and a 5% oil after building up for a while. Using this example, if you wanted to take two gummies and 10 drops of oil throughout the day, this would exceed the limit and take you to 75mg total. Adjusting to one and a half gummies plus ten drops per day would allow you to remain within the daily limit. It’s all about finding the right balance that provides the results you’re after without overloading your system.

Each type of product has its own specific benefits. This means that while all CBD products aim to provide a wide range of benefits, some are more suitable for certain uses. When it comes to targeted support in an affected area, topical treatments that you can apply straight to the source of the issue are typically the best option. For example, our patches, balms, and salve can all be applied directly to an affected area. The CBD content from balms and salves stays within the skin’s pores and interacts with endocannabinoid receptors in that area. In contrast, the CBD from topical patches absorbs via the transdermal method. This means that it goes through the skin and into the bloodstream.

While topical products are great for localised support, they aren’t the only types of products you can use to help with these issues. For example, some people find that taking sublingual (under the tongue) CBD oils can help just as much as topical options, even for localised areas of concern. Others benefit most from a combination of oral and topical CBD products. As with most aspects of CBD use, the most important factor is finding the balance that works for you. This includes identifying the products, dose, and usage frequency that suit your needs and preferences.

One of the most common misconceptions about CBD products is that they will cause a high. This stems from their relationship with the cannabis plant family. However, this is completely untrue. The reason CBD doesn’t cause a high comes down to its origin. All legal CBD in the UK comes from licensed industrial hemp, which is one of the most well-known plants from the cannabis plant family. The other well-known plant from this family is marijuana, which remains illegal in the UK.

Hemp plants have a naturally high concentration of CBD and little to no THC content. Conversely, marijuana is very high in THC content and is naturally low in CBD. As THC is the compound that causes a ‘high’ sensation, it’s commonly used as a recreational drug. Hemp, on the other hand, contains very little of this cannabinoid and therefore does not cause intoxication.

CBD in the UK can contain no more than 0.2% THC content, which is nowhere near enough to cause a ‘high’ sensation. The reason THC isn’t completely excluded from all CBD products is due to the entourage effect. Full spectrum CBD products contain varying levels of all of the naturally occurring cannabinoids and plant compounds from hemp. When they all work together, they’re thought to be more effective than one isolated cannabinoid. However, legal CBD products that adhere to UK regulations will never contain enough THC to cause a high. For extra peace of mind, please take a look at our lab reports to gain a better understanding of the cannabinoid make-up of our full spectrum products.

CBD and THC are the two most well-known cannabinoids from the cannabis plant family. While they are connected in many ways, there are also numerous key differences between them. Most notably, THC is the cannabinoid that can cause a ‘high’ in users, while CBD has no intoxicating effects whatsoever.

Additionally, these cannabinoids differ in the way they interact with your endocannabinoid system (ECS). The ECS is made up of three main parts; endocannabinoids, receptors, and enzymes. Endocannabinoids are molecules produced by the body when there’s a disruption to homeostasis. Disruptions may include pain, stress, or inflammation. These endocannabinoids bind to relevant receptors in the central (CB1) and peripheral (CB2) nervous systems to initiate a response to the issue. Once their purpose has been served, enzymes break down the endocannabinoids. Scientific research into the effects of THC in the early 1990s was the reason this bodily system was discovered.

THC is able to bind to endocannabinoid receptors in both the central and peripheral nervous systems. It can then cause intoxication, as well as the many other effects associated with THC. In contrast, CBD is thought to prevent enzymes from breaking down endocannabinoids so that they can be more effective. Some researchers also believe that CBD may bind to a type of receptor that has yet to be discovered.

CBD extract comes from industrial hemp plants. There are various methods that can be used to extract cannabinoids from hemp, but the most common is CO2 extraction. If the extract is intended for CBD isolate products, further steps in the process are required. This includes decarboxylation, which removes the CBD content from the rest of the cannabinoids and compounds in the extract.

All natural CBD products derive their CBD content from hemp plants. However, some companies have begun selling synthetic CBD products. Synthetic CBD is a chemical compound made in a scientific laboratory that is designed to be chemically identical to CBD. At Simply CBD, we only offer products that contain natural CBD from hemp plants. We truly believe that natural products provide better results than man-made ones. This extends to the rest of our ingredients. In addition to the CBD content, we always strive to use natural ingredients and carrier oils in our products.
